Going digital
4 January 2021

The year 2019 was an exceptionally good year for Littlebig Road. And by March 2020, many roadbook orders for the summer season were already beginning to come in. But then suddenly and unexpectedly, the coronavirus and the accompanying border closures and national lockdowns abruptly halted travel as well as roadbook orders. After several days of emergency meetings to discuss staff furloughs and how to handle the cancelled roadbook orders, we spent several weeks coming up with plans and ideas to save Littlebig Road, this successful business venture which we launched 20 years ago.

How to reinvent yourself? How to reduce the risks associated with being too heavily dependent on mainly the one destination of North America? How to rethink the concept of the roadbook for future travel to be able to offer a state-of-the-art product that will meet the expectations of our tour operator and travel agency clients as well as being consumer-friendly for the end user, your travelling customers.

The answer, of course, had long been in the back of our minds for some time, but we had not yet ventured to go forward with it. From a problem, we created an opportunity – the transformation of Littlebig Road from paper to digital, with the creation of an innovative and ultra-practical roadbook app for smartphone.

These long months of the lockdown and the close of travel gave us time to brainstorm to create this roadbook app. We put ourselves in the place of the traveller and asked ourselves what does the traveller need in a roadbook app. So, we integrated functions and features which will ensure that the traveller experiences the best possible trip ever whilst being practical yet fun to use.

We found the best IT developers in the domain of travel as well as the best providers for maps and all types of tourism information including things to see and do.

Our objective was to offer an easy-to-use roadbook app which meets the needs of both our travel industry clients as well as the end user, your travelling customers. We have already reached out to some of you with details of our new app, and the response so far has been very positive.

Littlebig Road is ready to leap into the digital age with the launch of this new roadbook app after more than two decades of proudly producing hard copies of our legendary roadbook. The future is now our digital roadbook.
